Edgility Expands Hospital@Home Platform for University Hospitals

Jul 28, 2021

Hospital care at home will help with the current shortage of clinicians and improve patients' overall experience and meet the growing desire for patients to stay at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic

TAMPA, Fla.-Edgility, Inc. will provide the technology platform to orchestrate University Hospitals (UH)’s Hospital-at-Home offering.

In April, UH created Hospital@Home (H@H), an at-home healthcare service that brings hospital services - social workers, physicians, nutritionists, nurses, and pharmacists - into the patient's home. Edgility, specializing in orchestrating complex healthcare workflows, will provide the technology to orchestrate UH's H@H operations.

"H@H is different from traditional home care," said Melissa Cole, Vice President of Integrated Delivery Operations." This program allows us to reimagine hospital-type care at home and innovate future care delivery models with technology."

"Edgility is proud of this collaboration with UH to be country's first Hospital-at-Home platform," according to Lisa Meyer, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Edgility's Chief Outcomes Officer. "Our collaboration with UH is built on our success in developing Smart Operation Centers that have allowed us to tackle complex discharge management, care transitions, tele-level of care management, heart failure, and enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)."

Hospital care at home will help with the current shortage of clinicians and improve patients' overall experience and meet the growing desire for patients to stay at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospital-at-Home programs have improved clinical outcomes, decreased length of stay, and increased patient and provider satisfaction. Hospitals can have more beds available without the prohibitive cost of expansion, plus patients experience fewer complications associated with hospital stays, such as delirium, infections, and restraints.

According to a case study from the American Hospital Association, patients who received home-based care also had fewer ED visits (5.8 percent versus 11.9 percent) and reported a better patient experience (67.8 percent versus 45.6 percent).

"Hospital-at-home is the future of health care. Edgility is excited to be a part of the program that has the potential to lower inpatient costs by 30 percent," says Meyer.
